Project Household Hunger: Welcome

FEEDING OUR FUTURE

Global Food Insecurity
By disrupting the nutrient line of production, Covid-19 worsens an already dire worldwide hunger crisis. Specifically impacting children, there will likely be and additional1.2 million child deaths by the end of the year, increasing current child mortality rates by 45%. Further, food insecurity disturbs growth and development during a child’s more vulnerable years, creating detrimental, chronic effects for its survivors. With no immediate end to Covid-19 in sight, Feeding America need help to meet an increased demand for charitable food assistance for the foreseeable future. To save our youth, we must act now.

FOOD INSECURITY IN MASSACHUSETTS

In Massachusetts, Covid-19 exacerbates the food insecurity plaguing many households, and this summer break may bring unparalleled challenges for impoverished families all over the state. For children, food insecurity has already skyrocketed 300% and is projected to increase another 81%, making Massachusetts the state with the 2nd highest percent change for children at risk of food insecurity in the country. With soaring unemployment rates, 1 in 9 children in MA now struggle with hunger. Even worse, increased demand for groceries combined with the closures of numerous food factories across the country have spiked food prices. Nationally, the price of groceries rose a record setting 2.6% in one month, putting even more pressure on those who are already food insecure. Unfortunately, this crisis is particularly harsh for disadvantaged children all over the state because even before this pandemic, Massachusetts was the most expensive state in the country in terms of meal costs. With more and more families unable to provide enough food, we can expect a greater need for child meals this summer. Your contributions keep the community fed, healthy, and able to combat COVID-19. Please help end the crisis today so no child goes hungry.

Project Household Hunger: What We Do

FOOD INSECURITY DISPROPORTIONALLY AFFECTS COMMUNITIES OF COLOR

Due to structural disparities, long standing economic, social, and health inequities have led to substantially higher levels of food insecurity for communities of color during these unprecedented times. With systemic barriers disproportionately increasing unemployment and poverty among African Americans, combating hunger becomes substantially more difficult for black children.

Angel Youth Foundation has a donation jar available on our order form, in which all contributions will be donated directly to the LDF to eliminate disparities and achieve racial justice in our society. Donations will qualify your order for a discount.
